Bulbfields Tour

The striking colors of the flowering tulip bulbs are a typical sight in Holland during Spring. The bright red, pink and yellow colors are overwhelmingly beautiful and are a must see experience!

From the end of February until the second week of May the flowers in the bulb fields bloom. It goes without saying that the exact period depends on the weather. Generally speaking, the best time is the second half of April.

At the end of February the crocus season starts. The daffodils and early and small tulips are next, from half March on. From the beginning of April the daffodils and the hyacinths bloom. Finally, from mid April until the second week in May the tulips show off their glorious colors. If spring starts very early, tulips might finish flowering early May.

Tulip flower grower

On this trip we will visit a grower of Tulipflowers, which are produced from bulbs in a fully automated greenhouse.

A management team member will welcome us. With a cup of coffee we will first watch a video which will explain how Tulip bulbs, that have grown the previous year in the fields, are being treated in a way that they will produce a Tulip flower in the middle of the next winter instead of flowering in Spring.

This company is able to grow Tulipflowers 52 weeks per year by cooling the bulbs and even freezing the bulbs, so that the developing bulb will stop growing until the grower decides to move the bulbs into the greenhouse.

Then the bulb will start growing and will flower within 3 weeks. This company produces in Winter and Spring 200.000 Tulipflowers daily. The total production in Holland of cutflower Tulips is 2 billion flowers!

This visit will take approx. 1 hour and is very interesting.

In the rose garden the finest and most beautiful roses for the Dutch and German climate are grown. Answers to all your questions about roses are to be found in the knowledge centre.

Amsterdam Flowermarket

The Singel flowermarket is one of Amsterdam’s most colourful attractions. The small shops are located inside a row of floating barges – a holdover from the days when flowers arrived in Amsterdam every day from the countryside by boat.

At the flowermarket you’ll find tulips of every colour – either in bouquets or as bulbs to plant at home. But the market has far more than just tulips. No matter what your favourite flower, you’re bound to find it here. Besides cut flowers, there are plenty houseplants, seeds and gardening essentials. If you plan to buy bulbs to take out of the country, be sure they have a customs cleared stamp on the package so you won’t have trouble at the border.
