The flower auction starts early in the morning, so depending on the day of the week, we will meet you at your hotel around 8:00 a.m. The volume of flowers declines toward the end of the week, so then we will start earlier.

We will drive to Aalsmeer, where the world's largest flower auction, 'Royal Flora Holland,' is located.

Behind the Scenes walking Tour

Once at the auction, we will explain the process from the moment the flowers or plants depart the nursery, which can be in Holland but might also be in a faraway country like Ethiopia or any other country where the climate is right for growing (cut) flowers.

A few facts:

Every hour, an auctioneer handles 1000–1600 transactions; the auctioneer is in charge of this selling process.
The total turnover of this cooperative of growers (shareholders) is more than
€ 5.3 billion.
Approx. 5000 growers from Holland and other countries around the globe are (partly) owners of this cooperative. They pay approximately 5% to the co-op to sell their products.
